Looks like Rain...

Seeing clouds in the mountains, we packed up the dog, backpack and camera for what looked like some cool weather at red rock canyon. A 20 minute decision till you r on the trail from the condo. Dark clouds hinted at rain though at least an hr to explore some of the usually tourist filled 1st pull off. finding only one car and realizing i hadnt done this trail head for three yrs it was a perfect chance. for some reason checking trails off a list seems to be why they ( the lists) were created. Right? Stephanie and I found the places that make this place the secret of Las Vegas. the aroma of Creosote bushes preparing for the rain that somehow they are able to sense, a smell familiar to those who venture onto Mojave trails. no animals in sight, likely preparing for the upcoming weather as well i suppose.

Perfect Time For Red Rock!

Being the time here in the Southwest when we actually have what could be described as "weather" it is a perfect time to hit those trails that are scorchers in the summer months. Living only 7 miles from the R.R.C.A is a gift that is not lost on me. I have hit the Calico Basin trails as well as Ice Box Canyon which is, in general, a crowd pleaser regardless of season. Wildlife seems to take a linking to the moderate weather so keep yours eyes open and your could see anything! Possibly even a Mountain Lion. So far lots of lizards, rabbits, beetles, Desert Bighorn, one small Cat, lynx i believe, and a variety of birds that sing to each other as we wander on...
